Read Between The Lines!

It's important to be bilingual. Men and women speak a different language. Guys have a tendency to have a simple, ragged language. Sort of like American English. Women have a language similar to Chinese: very complex. You have to learn to read in between the lines.

For instance, when a woman says "I want a good man" you can't take them at their word, since they speak a language we misinterpret constantly. A more accurate translation is: "I want that jerk I like, to magically transform into a good man."

So, if you're that jerk, then congrats, you can get at the very least a few weeks before she gives up on you. If you're that good man from the start, then you're out of luck.

The David Sedaris Story

The David Sedaris story is about A group of kids who have a mother who is struggling with an alcohol addicton. She is trying to cover it up as shown in the story by the quote "Drinking didn't count if you followed a glass of wine with a cup of coffee," This shows that even if the mom is to drunk to defend herself that her kids will. In the story she neglects her kids and at one point in the story she is so drunk that she locks her kids out of the house in the blistering cold. The kids even knocked and she still didn't let them in. The story states "We knocked on the plane, and without looking in our direction, she refilled her goblet and left the room." this shows that she didn't even know the kids were knocking or she was so drunk she couldn't here it. This made me lose all respect for this mother.

As for the writing style I didn't really know what to think. I thought when I was reading it that it jumped around a lot and that the author rambled a lot. At the same time I think that the theme of snow is an excellent way to connect what was a few little stories into one big one. Personally I liked the story because I can relate to it. My father is an alcoholic that lives in Florida off my grandma's retirement so I know how it is to have an alcoholic around. It's almost as if they are two people in one body because, when they are sober they are perfectly fine but, when they are drunk they show no responsability what so ever. All in all I thought it was a good storie with no real value.

Dominate Impression

I believe that this new consept of dominate impression applys to not only writing but every day life. If you want to persuade someone to see something your way then you can either glorify it, if you like it , or completely knock it down until you give someone else the image that you have. This is especially true if you are on the phone with someone or chating online with them. This is because they can't actually see what you are talking about, just like when you read someone else's writing. For example, if you are on the phone with your wife and you're looking for a new house you could say "This house is absolutely unsightly!" and "I can't believe how grotesque this house is." Even though they can't see it and may have liked the house they have to take your word for it.

Analyzing Song Lyrics~PEARL JAM

Pearl Jam-Last Kiss Lyrics

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?

The Lord took her away from me

She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good

So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

Think here is questioning himself like where is the love of his life. I also think he thinks that it was gods will although he blames himself. This is a religious person so he wants to be a good person so he can see the one he loves in heaven when he dies.

We were out on a date in my daddy's car

We hadn't driven very far

There in the road, up straight ahead

A car was stalled, the engine was dead

I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right

I'll never forget the sound that night

The screamin' tires, the bustin' glass

The painful scream that I heard last.

The artist gives a good description of the accident and what he felt. He talks about hitting this car and he describes the glass breaking and the tires screeching across the pavement. I think the scream was probably that of this girl that he loves.

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?

The Lord took her away from me

She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good

So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

Again here he is questioning himself.

When I woke up, the rain was pourin' down

There were people standing all around

Something warm rollin' through my eyes

But somehow I found my baby that night

I lifted her head, she looked at me and said

"Hold me darling just a little while."

I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss

I found the love that I knew I would miss

But now she's gone, even though I hold her tight

I lost my love, my life that night.

This is where he talks about waking up after the accident. He describes the crowd after the accident and the blood rolling through his eyes. The blood didn't affect him because he still manages to find his love. That was the only thing he cared about. When he finds her she is in bad shape and she eventually dies from the accident. This is also where he receives his "last kiss," where the title comes from.

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?

The Lord took her away from me

She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good

So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

Finally he ends the song again questioning where this girl that he loves is. He has this felling that he wants to be with her.
